Redesign of Famous Oxford Circus Crossing

Taking design cues from Tokyo's Shibuya district, central London's Oxford Circus has begun work on a £5m project to pedestrianize the street crossing. Oxford Circus is one of the most famous landmarks in the world, with more than 200m visitors a year. This is part of a large series of design improvements for London's Olympic Games in 2012. Eliminating street clutter and barriers along the Oxford Circus crossing will allow for people to cross in all directions- diagonally as well as straight ahead. The redesign is expected to open in November 2009. Link
